One of my priorities having recently taken over as Surrey AC is going to be developing our current branches as well as setting up new ones. About 3 weeks ago I set up Esher and Walton branch with the help of Rowan Cole, the new branch chairman, and am currently in the process of doing similar in Epsom and Ewell and possibly Mole Valley. However, it is easy to set up branches, call it work done, and leave them alone. I don’t think this is enough for all new branches must be given the support they need to expand and the opportunity for membership drives and action days within their area. Consequently, I intend to spend a lot of time doing this over the summer whilst I have the opportunity of a 4 months break from university.
If anyone is interested in becoming involved as a branch development officer on the Surrey area committee please contact me, I think it’s a very important role and one that needs time and dedication but is rather rewarding and productive if done well.
On another note, Henley looms ahead and promises to be another fantastic couple of weeks so if anyone can spare any time to get over there I seriously urge you to do so – if it’s anything like Crewe and Nantwich it will be a really amazing time!
